Messages¶
Every message the program can show, as it words it. Most say what to do; the buttons are listed where the message asks you something. Names in a message (a route, a file, a template) are examples: yours show your own.

| The project couldn't be upgraded | The project is in use or read-only, so it couldn't be upgraded. Some settings may not show correctly until it is. A copy of the file as it was is kept as: D:\Survey\CSE_Road.bak Enter closes | |

Routes and the workbook¶
| Message | What it says | Buttons |
|---|---|---|
| Select a route's sheet first | This command works on the sheet of a route (the sheet named after the route), not on your own sheets. Click its sheet tab and try again. Enter closes | |
| Select a field book route's sheet first | This command works on the sheet of a field book route (the sheet named after the route), not on your own sheets. Click its sheet tab and try again. Enter closes | |
| Select a design route's sheet first | This command works on the sheet of a design route (the sheet named after the route), not on your own sheets. Click its sheet tab and try again. Enter closes | |
| Select a From coordinates route's sheet first | This command works on the sheet of a From coordinates route (the sheet named after the route), not on your own sheets. Click its sheet tab and try again. Enter closes | |
| Remove the route Canal? | Its readings, its sections and everything worked out from them are deleted from the project. This can't be undone. Esc cancels | Remove route / Cancel |
| This sheet belongs to Canal | It is the field book of the route Canal. To delete it, remove the route (Route > Remove Route). Enter closes | |
| The routes couldn't be saved | Nothing was changed. The disk is full. Enter closes | |
| Discard your changes? | Your changes to the routes aren't saved. Discard closes the Route Editor without them; Keep editing goes back to it. Esc keeps editing | Discard / Keep editing |
| The route couldn't be added | The disk is full. Enter closes | |
| A number is needed | Row height takes a number, such as 1.5. The last character typed was taken out. Enter closes | |
| Select offsets first | Change Sign works on the offsets (the Distance column). Select cells in it and try again. Enter closes | |
| Nothing to interpolate between | Interpolate needs two chainages with surveyed points (rows with a Distance and an R.L.) in the NSL field book, and puts levels in between them. Enter closes | |
| Calculate R.L.s first | Calculate R.L.s first: the R.L.s from row 14 on do not go with the readings. Interpolated rows are read from the set-up in use where they go, so the R.L.s must be worked out from the readings. Enter closes | |
| Calculate R.L.s first | Row 14 has no staff reading (B.S., I.S. or F.S.), so the R.L.s below it can't be worked out, nor the set-up interpolated rows would be read from. Enter its reading and calculate R.L.s first. Enter closes | |
| The rows aren't in the order they were read | Rows of the NSL field book are no longer in the order they were read: sorting (C-L-R, C-R-L) moved them past a change point. The first is row 14, now selected. The H.I. at a place can't be known once readings have moved past a change point, so interpolated rows can't be put in. Undo the sort, or put the rows back in the order they were read, and try again. Enter closes | |
| Interpolate anyway? | Interpolating adds rows to the field book columns (A to H) only. Your columns from I on stay on their rows, so they may no longer match the readings. Enter interpolates · Esc cancels | Interpolate anyway / Cancel |
Sections¶
| Message | What it says | Buttons |
|---|---|---|
| Open a cross section first | Adjust to Target works on a cross section, not on the long section. Switch to a cross section and try again. Enter closes | |
| Saved Sections.pdf | Saved Sections.pdf in D:\Survey. Open it now? Enter opens it · Esc closes | Open it / Not now |
| No sections yet | The sections are built from the routes, and no route has readings to build them from. Enter a field book (and a design, if you have one) in the Routes workbook, save, and open the sections again. Enter closes | |
| The sections couldn't be saved | Your changes are still in the section view. Check that the project isn't read-only or open in another program, and save again. Enter closes |
